Brief Departmental Profile:
Department of Chemistry was established in the year of 2005. Since the parent Higher Secondary school in Dharmanagar Sub-Division is well established, large number of students from this Sub-Division going outside the Dharmanagar for pursuing higher study, so demand from the students and also people of Dharmanagar in study the basic science comes true. The Founder Professor Retired Principal of R.K. Mahavidyalay, Sri Kamini Nath and his Honorary service encourage the students and long teaching experience in chemistry helps us to establish Chemistry Laboratory suitable for Pass and Honours students in Degree Course. Soon after 3 Years Department received affiliation in Honours course. In 2009 Department of Chemistry organised first chemistry oriented seminar in all colleges of Tripura on “Recent Trends in Chemistry†funded by UGC NERO, DRDO, NEC, DAE, DHE, Dharmanagar Nagar Panchayet in which many International and National scientist participated and delivered their talk on recent development in Chemistry as well as remedial of environmental crisis.
Vision:
The vision of Department of Chemistry to establish M.Sc Program in Chemistry in near future. The infrastructure facility is developing in view of this vision in the new Science Campus. The faculty members are also took part in various seminars. Beyond this they are trying to take part in career advancement research program in this department. The faculty member also motivates the students to participate in various science program and also to join research after completion of their M.Sc. Our goal is to see that Government Degree College, Dharmanagar shines in all areas of academic excellence.

Eligibility criteria at entry level:
Minimum 45% marks in Chemistry (10+2) for getting honours course for General Category student and qualification marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for Pass course.
